Model Deddeh Howard Reshoots Famed Luxury Ads To Promote Diversity

Liberia-born, LA-based model Deddeh Howard has unveiled a project called “Black Mirror” that emphasizes the lack of diversity in the fashion industry: “A very small group of black models do make the cut here and there, but that group seems to remain pretty much identical over a long period of time… there’s Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell and maybe Iman, but they are the exceptions to the rule… Unfortunately black people are rarely shown in a positive light in the media. You can see countless times when yet another black person gets shot or arrested”. Together with photographer Raffael Dickreuter, the duo deconstructed well-known fashion ads and recreated them, all the while trying to get as close as possible to the originals.
