Shusei Nagaoka: The Sci-Fi Illustrator Who Created The Album Covers For Earth, Wind & Fire

Shusei Nagaoka (1936 – 2015) was a Japanese illustrator best known for his music album cover art in the 1970s and 80s which included Earth, Wind & Fire, Deep Purple, Electric Light Orchestra, Space, Maze, George Clinton, Kitaro, Rose Royce, Caldera, and Pure Prairie League. Shusei also worked with Playboy, Hustler, Penthouse and NHK Television. TBS Japan, published several books of his artwork and even had his art launched into space via the Russian Mir Space Station in 1991. His artwork is representative of what you would see in the retro years, a mix of animation and realism, focused on space travel, alien beings and the theory of the intertwining of both our world and others.
