Find Your Museum Doppelganger? There Is A Google App For That

Google Arts & Culture app has just been updated with a new functionality that lets you take a selfie, and using image recognition, finds someone in its vast art collection that most resembles you. It will then present you and your fine art twin side-by-side, along with a percentage match. You can then share the results on social media. The app, which appears to be unfortunately geo-restricted to the United States, is like an automated version of an article that circulated recently showing folks standing in front of portraits at museums. Since the portraits are pulled from a database of celebrated works collected from over 1000 museums worldwide, the chances of a half-decent match should be fairly high, shouldn’t they? Well it’s fair to say that they are mixed. This seems to part of the appeal however, as people have begun posting their hilarious (mis)matches online and they are proving to be wildly popular.
