Toronto-based artist Sarah Joncas has been showing in galleries since she was 16 years old. Impacted by various aspects of culture, such as film, music, novels, art history, cartoons, Sarah’s works seem very illustrative and whimsical. An early interest in anime and manga, as well as in neo-noir movies, helped develop Joncas’ interest in character-based works. Often placed in heightened emotional contexts, her characters are framed by suspenseful allusions to a story or caught in the midst of ambiguous or invisible unfolding scenes.
Sarah Joncas’s new exhibition, titled ‘Betwixt and Between’, along with Southern California artist Kelly Vivanco, is currently hosted at Thinkspace Gallery, Los Angeles (Jan.6 – Jan.27, 2018).
