I Am Like A Flag In The Center Of Open Space: Efi Gousi’s Disturbing Images Between Control And Chaos

Efi Gousi is a young Greek actress-director-photographer. She graduated from the National Theater of Northern Greece Drama School in 2008. Since 2009, she lives and works in Athens between Theater, Cinema and Fashion. Her latest project is a successful culmination of all three. Titled after a verse of Rainer Maria Rilke’s poem, I am like a flag in the center of open space is a series of blue-tinted photographs that play out like a ballet or a piece of theater. The characters, pale-faced and expressionless, are simultaneously innocent and ominous. Though calculated and precise, each scene seems to be on the verge of spiraling out of control at any second.
