ALO: Star-designer Philippe Starck Reimagines The Smartphone

French designers Philippe Starck and Jerome Olivet have unveiled a radical new concept for the smartphone of the future in partnership with electronics brand Thomson. The smartphone, called Alo, shuns the usual LED-backlit touchscreen, and instead projects 3D holographic images of messages, movies, or anything else the user might want to view. It’s completely voice-activated, and its ‘gelatinous’ translucent housing is specifically designed to fit inside the palm of your hand.
‘Alo is part of this class of objects that will become indispensable. It is equipped with high performance speech recognition and Artificial Intelligence that self learns. The more you talk to him the more he recognizes your language and responds to your calls. Equipped with a molded aluminum alloy technology core, giving it lightness and robustness, it is covered with a gelatinous, supple and natural envelope that perfectly fits your hand. Alo becomes your privileged personal assistant. Inspired by the aquatic world and the great sculptor Constantin Brancusi, I have recently decided to produce new 3D images of ALO smartphone concept in order to show its amazing futuristic lines and its intelligent transparency. ALO is the symbol of freedom, youth and modernity. With advanced technology, ALO Smartphone embodies in itself a design with human dimension’.
